Understanding the inter-relationship between individual, social and environmental factors associated with Obesity in children

Obesity is a public health priority – yet existing obesity reduction strategies have met with limited success. This project will utilise data from the Millennium Cohort Study, a multidisciplinary research project following the lives of children born in the UK in 2000-01. This project aims to:

  • Understand how inter-relationships between individual, social and environmental factors contribute to obesity in children.
  • Understand the temporal patterning of individual, social and environmental factors in relation to obesity in children.
  • Determine ‘critical periods’ of age when individual, social and environmental factors have the most substantial causal impact on obesity in children.
